SPAHN GLÜHLAMPEN 53174 Truck Bulb, Worklight
Your H3 worklight is dead. Or flickering. Or the beam is useless. The SPAHN GLÜHLAMPEN 53174 truck bulb, worklight fixes it. £3.95 each. 24V. 70W. H3 with PK22s socket. One cable. One holder. Straight swap.
What Is the SPAHN GLÜHLAMPEN 53174 Truck Bulb, Worklight?
How the H3 PK22s Worklight Bulb Works
The 53174 is a 24V H3 bulb with PK22s base. Single filament. 70W output. One insulated wire exits the base. That wire connects to your worklight’s power feed. The metal bulb holder provides ground through the housing. Simple. Reliable. No complex wiring.
Why H3 Worklight Bulbs Fail on 24V Trucks
Voltage spikes kill them. Standard H3 bulbs are rated for 24V nominal but not 28V peaks. Your alternator hits 28.2V during cold starts. The 53174 has a thicker filament and better thermal tolerance. Spähn GLÜHLAMPEN builds to German DIN 72601 worklight standards. That means commercial vehicle durability, not passenger car.

SPAHN GLÜHLAMPEN 53174 Truck Bulb, Worklight — Compatibility
Confirming Fitment
Fits any 24V H3 worklight, reversing lamp, or auxiliary light using PK22s socket. Common on Volvo FH, DAF XF, Scania R-Series, MAN TGX, Mercedes Actros, and tipper body worklights. Also fits agricultural machinery from Fendt, Massey Ferguson, and New Holland. Not for H3 bulbs with PGJ19 base — those are different.
Check HSE guidance on reversing and work lighting — inadequate lighting around vehicles causes documented shunting and loading bay incidents.

When and Why to Replace
53174 Symptoms — What to Watch For
Symptom one — Worklight completely dead. No light at all. The filament has snapped. Usually from vibration or voltage spike. Your loading area is now dark.
Symptom two — Dim yellow glow. The bulb works but output is weak. Filament has thinned over time. Light output has dropped 50% from new. You cannot see properly.
Symptom three — Intermittent operation. Light works then stops. Tap the housing. Works again. The filament is cracked or the base connection is loose. This bulb will leave you in darkness at the worst moment.
Fix 24V Worklight Darkness — Replace with Spähn Commercial Grade
Standard H3 bulbs last 100 hours in truck worklights. The 53174 uses a reinforced filament support system. Spähn’s commercial manufacturing process includes 24V burn-in testing. Spähn GLÜHLAMPEN technical catalogue confirms 500-hour minimum lifespan. Fit it once. Forget it.
Why Choose the SPAHN GLÜHLAMPEN 53174 Truck Bulb, Worklight?
PK22s base with flying lead — secure connection
Cheaper H3 bulbs have loose terminals. The 53174 has a 150mm insulated flying lead. Crimp or solder your vehicle wiring directly. No spade connectors vibrating loose. No intermittent ground faults.
70W single filament — maximum usable light
Some H3 bulbs are 55W. Too dim for yard work. The 53174 is 70W. Brighter but still within your worklight housing’s thermal rating. You see more without melting the lens.
24V commercial rating with 28V spike tolerance
Your truck’s alternator outputs 27.5V to 28.2V at cold start. Standard 24V bulbs fail at 27V continuous. The 53174 tolerates 28.5V. Built to German DIN 72601. Commercial vehicle electrical systems do not kill it.

Installing the SPAHN GLÜHLAMPEN 53174 Truck Bulb, Worklight
Step-by-Step 53174 Fitting Guide
Isolate the worklight circuit. Disconnect battery or pull the lighting fuse.
Remove the worklight lens or rear access cover. Usually 2 to 4 screws.
Note which wire goes to the H3 flying lead and which goes to the metal base.
Cut the old H3 wires at the connectors. Strip 8mm of insulation.
Remove the old bulb. The PK22s pushes into a spring-loaded holder.
Clean the metal ground contact inside the housing with fine sandpaper.
Insert the new 53174 into the holder. The PK22s base clicks into place.
Connect the flying lead to the positive supply wire. Use a heat shrink butt connector.
Ensure the metal bulb holder body contacts the housing ground point.
Test the worklight before refitting the lens.
Reinstall lens or cover. Check the rubber seal for perishing.
Never touch the quartz glass. Skin oil creates hot spots. The bulb will crack within the first hour. Hold only by the PK22s base or the flying lead. SPAHN GLÜHLAMPEN 53174 24V 70W

FAQs Worklight
What is the difference between H3 and H4 worklight bulbs?
H3 is single filament. One beam pattern. On or off. H4 has two filaments — high and low beam. The 53174 is H3. Use it in worklights that only need one output level. For two-stage worklights, use an H4 bulb.
Will the 53174 fit my 12V truck?
No. This is a 24V bulb only. Fitting to 12V produces very dim output. The filament needs 24V to reach operating temperature. Order a 12V H3 for 12V systems.
My worklight has two wires to the old H3. Which one is positive?
The flying lead from the H3 bulb is positive (+). The metal base is negative (-) or ground. Your worklight housing grounds to the vehicle chassis. Polarity matters for LED replacement bulbs but not for H3 filament bulbs — they work either way.
Can I use silicone grease on the bulb base?
Yes. Apply a thin layer of dielectric grease to the PK22s base. Prevents corrosion. Does not affect electrical contact. Do not get grease on the glass.
Why does my new 53174 look different from the old H3?
Spähn uses a ceramic PK22s base instead of plastic. Ceramic handles heat better. Your old plastic base may have melted or cracked. The ceramic base is an upgrade, not a mistake.
