What Is the TUNGSRAM 61494 Bulb, Worklight?
How the Heavy Duty H4 Worklight Bulb Works
The 61494 is a 24V H4 bulb with P43t-38 base. 75W on high beam. 70W on low beam. The Heavy Duty designation means reinforced filament construction. Vibration from diesel engines and rough terrain won’t kill it in three months. Two filaments inside one bulb — one for spread beam, one for spot.
Why Worklight Bulbs Fail Fast on Commercial Vehicles
Standard H4 bulbs are built for cars. Smooth roads. Short runs. Your truck works 14-hour days on farm tracks, building sites, and loading yards. Vibration snaps standard filaments. The 61494 uses thicker filament wire and additional support wires. Tungsram’s Heavy Duty technical data confirms 400-hour minimum lifespan in vibration environments — triple standard rating.

When and Why to Replace
Symptom one — Worklight works but output is yellow and weak. The bulb is at end of life. Filament has thinned. Light output has dropped 40% from new. You cannot see what you are loading. Replace before you damage equipment.
Symptom two — One beam works, the other is dead. High beam works. Low beam does not. Or vice versa. One filament has snapped. The other filament will fail shortly. Replace with the 61494 now.
Symptom three — Intermittent operation. Light works then goes out. Hit a bump. Works again. The filament is cracked. Vibration is making and breaking contact. This bulb will leave you in darkness within days.
Fix 24V Worklight Failure — Fit Heavy Duty Rated
Standard H4 bulbs last 100 hours in commercial use. The TUNGSRAM 61494 lasts 400 hours minimum. You fit it once. You forget about it. Your loading bay stays lit. Your yard stays safe.
Why Choose the TUNGSRAM 61494 Bulb, Worklight?
Reinforced filament for vibration resistance
Standard H4 has straight filament wire. The 61494 uses coiled-coil filament with additional support wires. Five-point suspension inside the glass. Tungsram designed this for agricultural and construction machinery. Your truck’s vibration won’t kill it.
24V commercial rating — not car voltage
Standard H4 bulbs are 12V or 24V car rated. Car 24V bulbs tolerate less vibration. The 61494 is built to ISO 7374 for commercial vehicles. Tungsram’s production facility standards include 24V burn-in testing. Every bulb is run before packing.
P43t-38 base fits commercial light housings
Cheaper H4 bulbs use smaller P43t base. Fits loose. Vibrates inside the holder. The 61494 uses the P43t-38 commercial specification. Tighter tolerance. No wobble. No intermittent connection. Your worklight stays locked on beam.

Installing the TUNGSRAM 61494 Bulb, Worklight
Step-by-Step 61494 Fitting Guide
Disconnect worklight from power. Or isolate the lighting circuit at the fuse box.
Remove the worklight lens or rear cover. Usually three screws or a twist-off ring.
Unclip the retaining spring holding the old H4 bulb.
Pull the old bulb straight out of the housing. Do not twist.
Hold the new 61494 by the plastic base. Never touch the glass. Skin oil creates hot spots. The bulb will crack.
Insert the 61494 into the housing. The three tabs on the P43t-38 base align with slots.
Re-engage the retaining spring over the base.
Reconnect the plug to the bulb terminals — flat terminal on top, two verticals below.
Test low beam and high beam before refitting the lens.
Reinstall lens or rear cover. Check the rubber seal is seated correctly.
Professional fitting time: 5 minutes per worklight.
FAQs
What does Heavy Duty mean on a 24V H4 bulb?
Reinforced filament. Additional support wires. Tighter base tolerances. Higher vibration resistance. The 61494 is built to commercial vehicle standards, not passenger car standards.
Is the 61494 legal for road use on my truck?
No. This is a worklight bulb. Not a headlight bulb. Worklights are for loading bays, yards, and off-road use only. Never use worklights on public roads. They are not ECE approved for road illumination.
Will the 61494 fit my 12V truck?
No. This is a 24V bulb only. Fitting it to 12V will produce very dim output — approximately one quarter of designed brightness. Order a 12V Heavy Duty bulb for 12V systems.
What is the difference between 75W and 70W on this bulb?
High beam is 75W. Low beam is 70W. Your worklight switch selects between them. Some worklights use both filaments simultaneously for maximum output. Check your worklight wiring diagram.
I touched the glass during installation. Do I need to replace it?
Yes. Skin oil creates a hot spot. The quartz glass expands unevenly. The bulb will crack within the first hour of use. Wipe with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth before fitting. Or buy a new 61494. worklight
